Hello. My name is Ed Schwartz, and as President of Loving Shepherd Ministries, I want to thank you for your interest in our “Faces of the Forgotten project”. We, along with our good friends at “The Christian Alliance for Orphans”, want to welcome you to this Google Earth project. We’re very glad you’ve taken the time to explore the staggering needs of orphans worldwide. No one organization could possibly meet the needs of the world’s 143,000,000 orphans. But… together, we CAN make a difference. Loving Shepherd Ministries is just one of the many Christian organizations on the front lines of domestic and international orphan care. Like our partner organizations in The Christian Alliance for Orphans, we are all very familiar with the global scope of the world’s orphan crisis. That’s why we’ve undertaken this Google Earth project.
We know that orphans are close to the heart of God. The prophet Isaiah said - “Learn to live right. See that justice is done. Defend widows and orphans and help those in need." James, the brother of Christ, reminds us that, “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction.” Would we really expect anything less from a God who calls Himself, “A father to the fatherless,” in the 68th Psalm?
What many people don’t know is that there is an orphan crisis on our planet. Unfortunately, it’s not something that makes the front page headlines. At least not yet. According to U.N. statistics, there are currently 143 million orphans in the world. That’s 143 million children who have lost one or both parents. In many cases, the remaining parent is totally incapable of providing for their child’s most basic needs. You can’t change the world for all these children. But you can change the world for one child today.
As you explore this Google Earth project, please remember a few things. The flag icon located in the middle of a particular country is your starting point. Clicking on the country flag will pull up a window where you can find key statistics about that country… find out which Christian Alliance for Orphans organizations are working in that country… view videos related to orphans… and find ways in which you can be directly involved with orphans around the world.
It’s our prayer that the Faces of the Forgotten program will be a blessing to you, an honor to God and a life and soul-saving help to orphans.
